Le Mas numérique

The synergy of digital technology for viticulture

Le Mas numérique is a demonstration site for innovative digital technologies dedicated to viticulture and a unique training tool for students and Viticulture professionals.

Le Mas numérique, located at the Domaine du Chapitre of the Institut Agro Montpellier in Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, within the Montpellier metropolitan area, stands out with its Mediterranean geographical identity. It spans a farming estate of approximately 100 hectares, cultivating vineyards, olive trees, arable crops, and garrigue landscapes.

Launched at the end of 2016, Le Mas numérique is a unique farm that integrates digital solutions provided by around fifteen companies specializing in digital agriculture for its production activities. Its originality lies in bringing together complementary, market-ready technologies within a production framework to evaluate their synergy, compatibility, and identify technical opportunities they can offer collectively.

Le Mas numérique aims to train future engineers in agronomy and agricultural technicians by providing them with an informed perspective on existing digital tools. For professionals in Mediterranean agricultural sectors, it serves as a space to explore the digital transformations driving innovation through real-world demonstrations and visits.

Le Mas numérique 2023-2025: a three-faceted system

A showcase of digital tools and services marketed for viticulture.

A shared evaluation site for digital viticulture tools.

A pilot site for the deployment and sharing of high and low-tech solutions in viticulture.

Le Mas numérique is structured around two main thematic areas.

Plant protection and the ergonomics of tools for users are key issues on vineyard operations. This demonstration axis brings together 7 digital solutions, ranging from weather data acquisition to disease risk modeling, optimization of applied doses, intervention forecasting, in-field measurement of operations, and traceability. These tools highlight the opportunities available to work more efficiently and under better conditions.

Quality and yield management are at the core of the estate’s concerns. This demonstration axis integrates a series of complementary technologies to support the estate in achieving its production goals, from planting to bottling.
